abstract

"Manifestation"(Erscheinung) means that something stands out from an indiscernible background and becomes an object that can be experienced, named, and pointed to. Appearance is not a natural attribute of existence, but a structural event. This paper discusses the conditions for appearance and proposes that the first condition for appearance is asymmetry. Differences are possible only in a field that has undergone slight deviations; differences provide the possibility of information; information provide the possibility of structure; and structure provide the possibility of objectification. Completely symmetric fields do not produce manifestations. It may be a "have", but it cannot be seen. Therefore, exploring the conditions for manifestation is to explore the fundamental event of "how the world moved from invisible to visible." Asymmetry is the key to the door of manifestation.

1. The paradoxes that appear

We can never directly see the "seeing" itself. What we see is always what has already been revealed.

This means that when manifestation occurs, some transformation from "non-manifestation" to "manifestation" has been completed. This transformation cannot be directly experienced, but can only be traced back to its conditions.

Appearances are not an attribute of the Being, but an event where the Being is first separated from a certain background. The black spot on a piece of white paper is not the black spot itself that "appears", but the difference between the black spot and the white paper, making the black spot an object that can be experienced.

Therefore, the question of manifestation is not "what appears", but "how is the difference possible?"

2. The concealment of symmetry

A completely symmetrical state is a state that does not appear.

Symmetry means that any part is equivalent to another part. There is no difference between left and right, no difference between front and back, no difference between inside and outside. A fully symmetric circle can rotate infinitely without changing; a fully symmetric field can translate infinitely without producing any discernable features.

The reason why this symmetry does not appear is because there is no difference, no skew, no separation of "this" and "that."

In physics, fully symmetric systems are highly stable, but they are also unobservable. Observation itself requires a breach of symmetry. In a fully symmetric potential well, the particle can be in any position; only when the symmetry is broken can the particle obtain a certain position and become "here" that can be said.

Therefore, symmetry exists, but it is implicit. It does not enter manifestation. It is the background of the manifestation, not the manifestation itself.

3. Asymmetry: the first condition for appearance

The first condition for appearance is not "existence" but "deviation".

There must be the smallest deflection. This deflection is not violence or destruction, but a slight imbalance. It makes two positions that could otherwise be equivalent no longer equal. It separates "this side" and "that side". It causes one direction to start lifting slightly from the background.

This is asymmetry.

Asymmetry is not as simple as "asymmetry". It's more like a very light inflection. This inflection opened the way from "one" to "two". Thus, differences become possible.

Differences are the most basic unit that appears. Without differences, there is no information. Without information, there is no structure. Without structure, there is no experiential world.

Therefore, asymmetry is the first gap in the door of manifestation.

4. How does asymmetry appear layer by layer

Asymmetry is not done in one go. It expands layer by layer and is generated layer by layer.

Layer 1: Original Deflection

This is the most original step: a tiny difference in identity appears. It is not yet an opposition, not a direction, but a kind of "no longer exactly the same".

Many cosmological models describe this deflection as a density fluctuation in the early universe; many metaphysics describe it as the starting point of "Tao comes from one, life comes from two."

Level 2: Generation of polarity

Once slight deviations occur, they amplify into polarities: presence and absence, gathering and dispersion, ascent and descent, light and darkness.

Polarity is not confrontation, but two sides of manifestation. They rely on each other and contrast each other. Without polarity, the difference remains indistinguishable. Only when there is polarity can differences become experiential pairs.

Level 3: Generation of direction

After the polarity expands, it is no longer just static ends, but begins to have a tendency to "go somewhere". The direction is asymmetric motion in polarity. It makes "here" and "there" no longer just two ends, but has a tendency.

Level 4: Object generation

When the direction stabilizes, it points to something. Something is circled in the direction and becomes an object that can be pointed to.

At this point, the manifestation is complete: from the invisible deflection to the pointing out being.

5. The difference between asymmetry and dualism

Asymmetry is often misunderstood as dualism. But the two are different.

Duality is the two poles that have been formed in the manifest plane: good and evil, right and wrong, being and nothing, you and me.

Asymmetry is even earlier. It is the "unevenness" before the two poles were formed. It is a prerequisite for making dualism possible, not dualism itself.

Therefore, asymmetry does not stand on either side. It precedes any opposition.

This is also why many traditions always deny both dualism and non-dualism when talking about the highest reality. Because they are still at the level of manifestation. The real roots are before asymmetry even occurs.

6. Asymmetry and directionality

Once asymmetry enters the direction, it becomes a direction that precedes the content.

The direction is not a goal or a plan, but a deviation. It allows content to be selected, combined, and manifested.

Therefore, directionality is not the exclusive property of people. It belongs to all self-sustaining systems. A living organism, an organization, a galaxy, as long as it starts to have a tendency to "this way" rather than "that way", it becomes directional.

Directionality is the continuation of asymmetry over time.

7. Conclusion: Appearing is not giving, but deflecting

The condition for appearance is not existence, not energy, not information, but asymmetry.

As long as there is a slight deviation, the world begins to manifest itself.

This judgment has profound consequences. It means: anything real has skew, unevenness, and unfinished. It also means that people cannot return to a completely symmetrical "absolute". Even if there is a root there, the root does not appear.

But this does not mean that the roots are not there. The roots are. It just doesn't show.

It serves as the background of each appearance that "is not yet biased, but may be biased at any time."

Therefore, the final conclusion about manifestation is:

The world appears not because it is complete, but because it is finally a little incomplete. And the root is not outside of it. It never left until it was incomplete.

Asymmetry is the first and only shadow left by the roots as they emerge.
